YouTube Music has introduced a lyric-sharing feature, aiming to match capabilities offered by Spotify and Apple Music. The update allows users to share selected lyrics from within the app, offering a new way to engage with music and help others discover songs through social media. Shared lyric cards include the YouTube Music logo, bringing attention to the service while promoting artists.
The feature becomes available when users go to the “Lyrics” tab during playback. A new “Share” button allows selection of specific lines. After that, tapping “Next” leads to a customization screen, where users can adjust the background color and preview the card. The final image includes the lyrics, album art, song title, artist name, and branding.
Once finished, the lyric card can be posted directly to Instagram, saved to a gallery, or shared via other apps. The rollout appears to be server-side, so some users may not see it yet. One user reported seeing the feature on version 8.15.51 of YouTube Music on Android.
Lyric sharing supports fan-driven music discovery, adding to editorial and algorithmic methods. This change allows YouTube Music users to participate more actively in sharing new music and promoting artists in organic, personal ways.
