X Launches TV App To Bring Video Content To Your Living Room.

When you think of X/Twitter, video content might not be the first thing that comes to mind. However, the social media platform is moving ahead with the launch of a video app for TVs.

On Tuesday, the company officially introduced the X TV app as a beta version in several app stores, including Amazon’s Fire TV, Google TVs, and LG TVs. Unlike the main platform, this app is focused on delivering video content rather than text-based tweets, aiming to compete with YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch.

“This, along with our upcoming Video Tab, represents a significant step forward in transforming X into a video-centric platform, opening up new opportunities for creators, advertisers, and our partners,” the company announced with the app’s release.

The idea of a video-focused app was first hinted at in March when X revealed its plans to become more video-oriented. The big question now is whether users will embrace X on a large screen, given that most people typically access the platform via their phones or PCs.

X is promoting the app as a way to enjoy content like SpaceX rocket launches, sports highlights, and clips from popular influencers. “Discover a new way to experience X, bringing unique and engaging content right to your living room,” the app’s description reads.

Engadget, after downloading the app, noted that the default recommendations skew toward political videos from right-wing creators, aligning with X owner Elon Musk’s support for Donald Trump’s re-election bid. Other users have pointed out the app’s lack of basic features, such as bookmarks and a history tab.

Another drawback is that users must sign in with an X account to access the app. Currently, the X TV app isn’t available on Roku or Apple TV stores, but the company plans to expand to other platforms.
