Wu-Tang Clan, Mary J. Blige, EPMD, and other artists have been invited to perform at the Hip Hop 50 concert, which will take place in the middle of New York City.
Tyrese, Sean Paul, special guests Mariah Carey, and Maxwell will all play at the concert on September 15 at Madison Square Garden in addition to the performers already named.
Ticketmaster will start taking orders for tickets on Friday, June 16. On June 15 at 10 a.m. ET, fans can also use the code “DISCO” to get tickets through Live Nation’s pre-sale.
The legendary duet “I’ll Be There for You/You’re All I Need to Get By” between Method Man and Mary J. Blige, which Meth just admitted he first disliked, should be performed for fans.
On Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast in 2022, the rap veteran discussed how he detested the impression the Grammy Award-winning song gave him and tried to reject the support he was receiving.
Meth stated, “I battled that ‘All I Need’ shit.” “I didn’t want to release it because it had to the point where, when we were performing these performances [with Wu-Tang Clan], I would walk out to the sound of screaming girls. Who wants to use sex symbols at this point? I feel like a dirty, nigga who has worn the same clothes for three days in a row.
In the meantime, there are other concerts taking place in NYC to honor the 50th anniversary of hip hop. One month earlier, on August 11, a massive event honoring the occasion will take place inside Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, the city that gave birth to the genre.
Run-DMC has been added to the star-studded lineup, which also includes Fat Joe, T.I., Common, Slick Rick, Lupe Fiasco, Ghostface Killah, EPMD, and A$AP Ferg, along with Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and many others.
Eve, Lil Kim, Remy Ma, and Trina will perform in a Queens of Hip Hop concert. The concert will also honor pioneers who paved the way, like Roxanne Shante, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Kurtis Blow, and the Sugarhill Gang.
