Willow Smith Makes History As She Receives Riaa’s First-Ever Nft Plaque

As the first artist to ever earn an NFT plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Willow Smith has created history.

The plaque honors Willow for her 2010 hit song “Whip My Hair” going triple platinum, as well as her singles “Wait A Minute!” and “Meet Me At Our Spot” going double platinum and her Travis Barker-assisted song “Transparent Soul” going platinum. Willow, along with Roc Nation, Infinite Objects, and her record label, ordered the plaque’s art.

In a statement to the media on Thursday, May 25, Willow Smith stated, “I am beyond happy to have the opportunity to join in the sacred process that is music. Massive love to the RIAA and Infinite Objects! I feel very privileged to be able to mark these occasions in such a creative way.

When the RIAA upgrades Willow’s certifications, the verified Infinite Objects Video Print display will immediately alter the song’s artwork.

Willow’s life was obviously affected by the controversy surrounding her father Will Smith’s notorious Oscars slap in 2022, but she didn’t let it influence her as much as it might have.

Willow addressed the Oscars incident in an August interview with Billboard about her album Coping Mechanism, saying that her family is human and errs just like everyone else.

She told the publication, “I consider my entire family as being human, and I love and embrace them for all their humanness. Because of the position we have, “our humanity isn’t always accepted, and we’re expected to behave in a way that doesn’t promote a healthy human life or promote being honest.”

Willow continued by saying that the uproar caused by her father’s behavior had no impact on her ability to think creatively or “rock me as much as my own internal demons.”

Although it appears that things have somewhat calmed down in the NFT world since the pandemic’s NFT boom, Def Jam recently signed The Whales, a Gorillaz-like virtual rock band, as its first NFT act.
