Earlier this month, Will Smith sparked speculation about starring in The Matrix reboot, years after declining the role of Neo. However, the teaser was actually a promotion for his new song with Big Sean and OBanga, Beautiful Scars.
Yesterday (January 30), Smith officially announced Based On A True Story, his first album in 20 years. Set for release in March, the project aligns with the anniversary of his 2005 album Lost And Found. While the tracklist remains unknown, it will feature previously released singles You Can Make It, Work Of Art, and Tantrum.
The Beautiful Scars music video, released alongside the announcement, leans into Smith’s Hollywood roots. In the cinematic clip, Smith reflects on turning down The Matrix, while Big Sean plays a Morpheus-like figure offering him a chance to see how things could have been.
Based On A True Story arrives in March.
