Only 152 people had the chance to acquire a Maybach designed by Virgil Abloh, but Rick Ross declined for one particular reason.
Rozay was questioned about the Abloh x Maybach collaboration when he sat down with Complex to talk about the success of his third annual car show at his Fayetteville, Georgia home, and he made it very clear that if it’s not straight from the source, he doesn’t want it.
To be very honest with you, he said, “I wouldn’t want the Maybach since I didn’t directly get it from the big homie Virgil. It was odd that you asked me that because I had only recently been offered the Maybach. I was browsing through my phone as we were on the phone.
“And I declined it just out of love for the old shit,” he concluded. If the friend had said that, it would have meant a lot more to me, and I would have paid for it or something. And I believe that whoever he signs those for should keep and certainly cherish that car, you know what I mean? That’s
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S680 model, which was unveiled at a car show last December, was created by Abloh before his death in November 2021 in collaboration with Gorden Wagener, Mercedes-Benz’s chief design officer.
Only 152 units of the car, which was released to the public in April, were made available, according to Dezeen. Its look is reminiscent of a Maybach since it is “a two-tone solar-powered car with a transparent hood that was also designed together with Abloh.”
Due to the fact that Project Maybach was a show vehicle, Wagener said to Dezeen, “We had complete creative freedom, allowing us to collaboratively concept what the future of electric travel could look like.” We had to approach the design of the Mercedes-Maybach limited-edition S-Class differently due to production needs.
“Virgil was a creative that all of us here at Mercedes-Benz greatly admired,” he continued. The potential was actually to reimagine what a fashion and automotive partnership may look like thanks to the advancements conceivable inside the Mercedes-Benz teams and Virgil’s special capacity as a cultural visionary.
Lil Baby acquired one of the expensive vehicles in March, but he’s not the only famous person to do so. In the “Sticky” music video Drake released in 2022 in support of his Honestly, Nevermind album, he flaunted a different Virgil Maybach SUV.
As a gift for his wife Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz just purchased one of the $500,000 vehicles, but it didn’t seem like she was a big fan. In an interview with Angie Martinez last month, Swizz stated, “I don’t think she liked the goddam car.”
He claimed that the gift was “still at the dealership” despite the fact that Alicia enjoys collecting and driving vehicles. This claim was made as a result of social media responses to the extravagant gifts he has previously given her.
“I know she was already wondering, ‘Are they going to be on me if I bring the kids to school in this?'” he continued. Will anybody notice how I’m moving? She probably began to think that way as a result of it. She was simply acting courteously.
A few weeks later, Keys put a stop to the rumors when Swizz took a picture of her happily beaming and gazing into the camera while sitting in the rear seat of the custom vehicle.
He captioned the photo, “Look who’s loving her gift now [laughing face emojis],” “May God bless this Sunday.”
