Usher has released a short remix of one of his most well-known songs to commemorate obtaining an honorary degree from Berklee College of Music.
At Boston University’s Agganis Arena on Saturday (May 13), the Confessions singer received yet another honorary degree, adding to his enormous list of achievements.
The singer’s longtime buddy and partner Jermaine Dupri joined him on graduation day and assisted in the celebrations through Instagram. Last May, the producer got an honorary doctorate from the Atlanta Art Institute.
Usher may be seen in the video sporting an extremely stylish doctorate robe and tam while beaming widely. The crooner quickly delivers a remixed version of his timeless song “Nice & Slow,” which perfectly identifies him as Dr. Raymond, while JD extends him some warm words.
They refer to me as U.S., Her, Ra, Y.M., and Odd. Now, sweetheart, tell me what you want to do with me., but he modified it for this fast remix to “They call me, D-O-C-T-O-R, R-A, Y-M, O-N-D.”
The freshly modified lyrics were then used in the description of Usher’s own Instagram post. He added the words “They call me D-o-c-t-o-r R-a-y-m-o-n-d,” a tam emoji, and some kind words for Berklee College of Music. I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to speak to the upcoming generation of musicians, producers, vocalists, arrangers, dancers, and other creatives.
The song “Nice & Slow” was included on the singer’s second studio album, My Way, released in 1997. Usher achieved his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with the song.
Legendary musician Roberta Flack and Gambian singers and composer Sona Jobarteh were among the 2023 doctoral winners. Berklee also shared a photo on Instagram to mark the occasion.
The timing of Usher’s most recent honor in his career is critical. He just made his third trip back to Sin City as part of his My Way residency to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his second album.
One of R&B’s biggest sex icons, he has garnered significant notice for some of his outrageous but endearing actions during his most recent tour.
He is providing fans with an experience reminiscent of the male R&B legends of the past, serenading women with his seductive voice and bringing them chocolate strawberries and flowers.
Usher also announced his Lovers & Friends Festival for this year, which occurred on May 6.
