Till the Marathon rapper’s passing, Tee Grizzley was unaware that Nipsey Hussle had specifically mentioned him as a Detroit talent he wanted to work with.
In-depth discussions with the “First Day Out” originator and Skilla Baby on everything from Eminem’s 8 Mile to their newest project, toxic lyrics, Taylor Swift, and more — including the late Nipsey — took place when they recently paid a visit to HipHopDX.
When talking about the latter, DX pointed up how Tee was mentioned as a potential collaborator, along with other Detroiters Payroll Giovanni and Big Sean.
It’s odd, he remarked, because I didn’t find out Nipsey had slept with me until after he had died. Then, after viewing the interview, I thought, “Damn, I didn’t even know my brother had actually fucked with me like that.”
At the conclusion of the previous month, Tee Grizzley and Skilla Baby released their 12-track collaborative album Controversy. Skilla recently discussed their decision to collaborate on a mixtape with the Detroit Metro Times.
We occasionally collaborated, he claimed. “We felt it made sense if we did a project together because we liked how we worked together.” The album has 12 songs without features, which gives the pair more freedom to swap bars in a more structured manner.
As for the late Nipsey Hussle, he recently beat out JAY-Z and Eminem to be named the greatest rapper of all time by NBA player Russell Westbrook.
Russ Westbrook and his wife Nina played a social media bracket game over the weekend in which they eliminated eight of the greatest rappers of all time, with his late friend Nipsey emerging as the victor.
On his approach to proclaiming Neighborhood Nip the G.O.A.T., the former NBA MVP chose him over Slim Shady, Nas, Lil Wayne, and eventually Hov.
Californian Westbrook, who favored Dr. Dre over Biggie, Lil Wayne over 50 Cent, and Ice Cube over Redman, is sure to enrage lovers of East Coast Hip Hop.
One fan tweeted in response to Russ’ selections: “I felt his pain when it got to Nip and Wayne I was just listening to them today.” Another wrote: “They gonna boo him because he picked dr dre over biggie, cube over red man, wayne over 50 and nipsey over emnem, but he’s right!”
Due to their shared age and experience growing up in Los Angeles, Westbrook has long been a fan of Nipsey Hussle.
