Turntable Labs has launched ‘Hangout’, a new social music platform that lets users share and discover songs in real-time. The platform features a catalog of over 100 million tracks, secured through partnerships with major labels including Sony Music, Universal Music, Warner Music, and Merlin, which represents independent labels globally.
Hangout allows users to create personalized “Hangouts,” where they can invite friends and take turns playing DJ. The platform blends traditional social music experiences, like gathering around a jukebox, with a modern digital twist, making it accessible to users worldwide. Features include customizable avatars, virtual dance floors, and chat functionality, aiming to provide a fresh social media alternative.
Joseph Perla, Founder and CEO of Hangout, shared, “Hangout begins its journey to redefine the intersection of music and social media.” Perla, who has a background in social network ventures like Zandigo and Turntable, emphasized the platform’s mission to celebrate music while supporting the industry.
Hangout has received backing from key music industry figures, with executives from Sony, Universal Music, and Warner Music expressing support for the platform’s role in fostering community and fan engagement. The platform also partners with Beatdapp to prevent streaming fraud, using blockchain technology to ensure fair music consumption.
Hangout is available starting November 13 via web browsers and as an app for iOS and Android.
