On Episode 126 of the Guest Speaker Series, artist, producer, and label owner TRIY joins the show to discuss his long-awaited return to music, fatherhood, and his deep-rooted passion for film. After stepping away from releasing music for a few years, he’s officially gearing up for his next project, Who Played Who?, with its first single, “Better Off Friends”, now streaming on all platforms.
Since his last release, Did You Forget (2022), TRIY has been focused on expanding his independent label, TRIY Records. The imprint is home to rising artists Tailored Made and Bia Javier, both of whom he’s been mentoring and developing. Now, with his own return on the horizon, he’s ready to bring his vision full circle.
But the road back hasn’t been easy. During his time away, TRIY suffered the loss of his father, a figure who profoundly shaped him both personally and musically. He opens up about the impact of his father’s passing, reflecting on the lessons he’s carried forward—not just in his artistry, but in his own journey as a father.
TRIY’s love for music started early, learning to play drums at his church before eventually attending Berklee College of Music. His passion has since become a family tradition, as his two children have also developed a love for drumming at a young age. For him, fatherhood is about passing down creativity and values, ensuring that music remains a central part of their lives.
Beyond music, TRIY takes a moment to reflect on his childhood, recalling memorable moments like being cast in a movie while in high school—an experience that deepened his love for storytelling.
The conversation takes a fun turn as TRIY and host Mike dive into their shared love of movies. As a self-proclaimed movie buff, TRIY passionately argues that Hey Arnold! deserves a live-action adaptation, while also airing out his frustrations with Netflix and Disney+. From industry letdowns to nostalgic rewatches, the two trade takes on everything from streaming services to film reboots.
With a new project on the way, a growing label, and a wealth of life experiences shaping his artistry, TRIY is stepping into his next chapter with purpose.
