Travis Scott’s Utopia Eyes Over 500,000 Sales, Competing with Previous Record ‘Astroworld’

J. Cole Opens Up About His Hip Hop Heroes and Inspirations in Candid Interview with Kevin Hart

Travis Scott’s most recent album, Utopia, is expected to have strong first-week sales.

HITS Daily Double estimates that the initiative will generate between 245,000 and 275,000 SEA (streaming equivalent albums) units in its first seven days, or at least 350 million streams.

That number, however, excludes pure record sales, which according to industry insiders, may exceed 200,000. On his website, Scott has been selling physical copies of Utopia along with numerous gear and zine bundles and offering fans a choice of five distinct album covers.

The total sales for Utopia could surpass 500,000 and possibly surpass the first-week sales for his previous album, Astroworld, which launched in 2018 with 538,000 album-equivalent units.

Only Drake’s Scorpion, with an astounding 732,000 first-week copies, had a larger sales week that year than Astroworld, which easily sailed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Utopia has been making a tremendous impact on streaming services even though the album’s official first-week sales won’t be revealed for another week. It received over 128 million first-day streams on Spotify, making it the biggest debut of 2023 and the fifth highest of all time, according to Chart Data.

Travis Scott is now one of only five rappers in Spotify history to reach over 100 million streams in a single day, including Drake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and XXXTENTACION.

The 19-track album Utopia, which was released on Friday (July 28), features A-list cameos from artists including Drake, Future, Beyoncé, Playboi Carti, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, Young Thug, SZA, Kid Cudi, Bad Bunny, and Westside Gunn.

In 2018, Astroworld hosted a number of high-profile performers, including Frank Ocean, Drake, Swae Lee, Juice WRLD, Quavo, TakeOff, Kid Cudi, The Weeknd, 21 Savage, and Gunna.
