Travis Scott has endorsed Kanye West’s latest album, Utopia.
The long-awaited project from the Houston rapper dropped on Friday (July 28), and it contains the song “Skitzo” with Young Thug. The tune, which was created by Boi-1da and Jahaan Sweet, has Scott reiterating his commitment to Kanye while making reference to his campaign for president of the United States.
He raps, “I’m loyal, bitch, I got Ye over Biden/ Crazy how they love to talk shit and got no Trident/ I got Ye over Biden.”
Yeezy has a lot of production and songwriting credits on Utopia, notably on the songs “Thank God,” “God’s Country,” and “Telekinesis,” even though he doesn’t actually perform on the album.
Given that a number of business and creative partners severed relations with the rap and fashion entrepreneur last year as a result of his antisemitic remarks, Travis Scott’s support for Kanye West is noteworthy.
Pusha T, a longtime collaborator, resigned from his position as president of G.O.O.D. Music and was blunt in his criticism of Kanye’s “disappointing” comments.
In November, he admitted to The Los Angeles Times that “it’s definitely affected me.” “It has been discouraging. There is no place for racism or hate speech as a Black guy in the United States. So, yes. Let’s be clear: It has been incredibly frustrating.
Kanye’s billion-dollar net worth fell as a result of his breakup with key corporations including adidas, Balenciaga, and Creative Arts Agency.
The long-standing friendship between Travis Scott and Kanye West began in 2012 when La Flame secured a publishing contract with G.O.O.D. Music, which was made possible by the famous DJ Premier, who grew up knowing Travis’ family.
“[Travis] was trying to get me to sign him at a time when the music he was making just wasn’t in my lane,” Premier said to Pitchfork last year. When Nokia flip phones were still popular, he visited my parents’ house and sat down with me.
“His aunt is urging him to stop taking pictures because he was secretly taking them. Then I said, “You know what? It’s possible that Kanye likes what you’re doing right now. ‘Yo, he’s got something,’ I said when I called to co-sign him. Before you know it, he has signed with Ye.
A number of songs, including “Piss On Your Grave,” “Watch,” “Wash Us In the Blood,” and “Praise God,” were later produced by the two.
Travis Scott’s new album Utopia, which features Drake, Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Future, Playboi Carti, 21 Savage, SZA, Kid Cudi, and many more artists, is his first solo effort since 2018’s Astroworld.
