TikTok Plans U.S. Version Launch Before Potential Sale.

TikTok is reportedly preparing to launch a U.S. version of its app on September 5, 2025. According to a report from The Information, users in the United States will need to download this new version to continue accessing the platform. Meanwhile, the current app will remain operational until March 2026 to allow for a transition period. However, this schedule is subject to change based on regulatory or business developments.

This development comes shortly after former President Donald Trump announced TikTok’s planned sale to a group of wealthy investors. Trump also stated that the acquisition might require approval from the Chinese government, with Chinese President Xi Jinping expected to consent to the deal. The identities of the investors involved in the purchase are expected to be made public in the upcoming weeks.

At present, TikTok is operating in the U.S. under the terms of President Trump’s third ban extension, which is set to expire on September 17, 2025. How this ban and the app’s transition will ultimately unfold remains to be seen.
