The Weeknd, Drake, And Rihanna Are On The 2023 Oscars Shortlist

Some of the celebrities that have been named to the 2023 Oscar shortlist include Drake, Rihanna, and The Weeknd.

The Weeknd’s surprising late addition was due to his song “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” from the Avatar: The Way Of Water soundtrack. The movie came out on December 16. Rihanna was added for her song “Lift Me Up” off the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. 

Abel Tesfaye received his first Oscar nomination in 2015 for the song “Earned It,” which is featured on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack. This is his second nomination this year.

Thanks to his contribution to the song “Time” from the David O. Russell film Amsterdam, Drake made an unexpected entry on the list.

Kendrick Lamar, who attempted to be considered for best live-action short film for his “We Cry Together” music video, was conspicuously omitted from the list. K. Dot expressed his sincere desire that the voter response to the short film in a recent interview.

“So in writing, I say: ‘Okay, how can I make this feel personal, but also holding up a mirror as a collective concept, rather than just a personal concept,’” he explained. “I wanted to bring that drama because, at the end of the day, whether we like it or not — the good, the bad and the ugly, the pros and cons — that’s what makes everything evolve.”
