The Weeknd contributed $350,000 from his XO Humanitarian Fund to aid relief efforts in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa, benefiting the World Food Programme (WFP). The donation supports the WFP’s efforts to help 200,000 Jamaicans affected by the Category 5 storm.
The WFP, working with the Jamaican government, has already provided food kits to over 9,000 people. Across Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba, the organization has assisted about 254,000 people so far. Hurricane Melissa, which hit in late October, affected nearly six million Caribbean residents.
The Weeknd, a WFP ambassador, has donated over $10 million to various causes since 2020, including $1 million for L.A. wildfire relief. Jamaican artists Shaggy, Sean Paul, and Kes are also leading efforts, including a “Jamaica Strong” benefit concert on Dec. 12 at UBS Arena, featuring artists like Chronic Law, T.O.K, Tessanne Chin, Aidonia, Inner Circle, Ky-Mani Marley, Teejay, Richie Stephens, Gramps Morgan, and Mikey Spice.
