'The King Is Coming Back Home': Diddy To Receive Harlem Icon Award

Diddy just revealed that he will be visiting his former neighborhood of Harlem this week to accept the esteemed Apollo Icon Award.

The Bad Boy tycoon sent a call to action on Instagram on Saturday, June 10, asking others to join him in celebrating on Monday, June 12th.

Diddy yelled, “Wassup Harlem, I’m coming Home.” “I’ll be there on Monday to get that Apollo Icon Award. You already know it’s up. I don’t have everyone’s phone number, but if you’re in the city, Harlemites, just know that drinks are on Diddy.

And he said, “Yeah. The winner is returning home. The King is returning home. The son is returning home. Harlem is everywhere. I’m returning home.

During the Spring Benefit for the Apollo Theater, Diddy will be presented with the Icon Award. Other honorees include basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who will receive the Impact Award, CEO of the Apollo Jonelle Procope, who will be recognized for her twenty years of selfless service, and independent eyewear maker Warby Parker, who will receive the Outstanding Leadership in Innovation, Diversity, and Global Community award.

The event, according to The Apollo’s website, is a celebration of the theater’s long history and commitment to Harlem and New York City. Additionally, every penny raised will go toward the venue’s cutting-edge performing arts, educational, and community programs, which annually assist 200,000 people.

In addition to DJ sets by Wyclef Jean and DJ D-Nice, MC Lyte will also perform during the celebration of hip-hop’s 50th birthday.

In other Diddy news, the legendary producer recently put an end to his friendly competition with Jermaine Dupri when the So So Def creator released a fresh freestyle.

JD posted a spontaneous freestyle on social media this week to show followers that he’s still got it, and Diddy was proud to support his fellow mogul.

JD, a 50-year-old rapper and producer, danced over the wavy, upbeat rhythm while spitting verses like “I’m having at your shit/ Knowing I’m a short n-gga/ Big check, high-tech, no need to use force Bring that ass over, Cappin’, and I’ll watch you abuse it and lose it. I kill this, it’s the worst, and this summer, you feel it.

The comment section quickly erupted with admirers leaving their compliments and Diddy writing: “Act Bad!!! The phrase “Let’s go!” is a reference to his most recent song of the same name with the City Girls and Fabolous.

Last month, the two announced the date and location of their much anticipated Verzuz match.
