The Game is gearing up to release his first Gangsta Grillz mixtape Every Movie Needs A Trailer on Friday, December 5. The rollout created some confusion around the original timeline, but the Compton rapper confirmed the date and shared that the project is produced entirely by Mike & Keys. He also revealed that the mixtape will feature “Crack Music 2,” a new collaboration with Kanye West.
During an appearance on The Cruz Show on Real 92.3 L.A., The Game revisited the creation of the original version of “Crack Music,” which appeared on Kanye West’s 2005 album Late Registration. At around the 20:50 mark of the interview, he explained that Ye brought him to the studio to contribute a verse and a hook. However, The Game left shortly afterward, joking that he had company waiting for him in the car. The phrase he said on his way out; “That’s that crack music”, ended up inspiring the concept.
He added that fans repeatedly encouraged him to record an actual verse for the song over the years. According to him, “Crack Music 2” is a response to that request, though it’s unclear whether it uses the original instrumental, a new version, or a shortened format built around a single verse.
The Game and Kanye West have maintained a working relationship for years, despite the controversies surrounding Ye. Their dynamic has occasionally placed other artists, including Toronto rapper Top5, in difficult positions due to conflicting loyalties.
Kanye is also involved in The Game’s upcoming album Documentary 3, a collaboration that drew attention as fans questioned how the two artists’ current ventures would coexist with the new Gangsta Grillz release.
The pair have collaborated multiple times, including on:
- “Eazy”
- “Wouldn’t Get Far”
- “Mula”
- “Jesus Piece” featuring Common
With “Crack Music 2” now confirmed for Every Movie Needs A Trailer, fans are preparing for another addition to their long-running creative partnership.
