The Fugees have reunited for what may be their final performance ever, thanks to Lauryn Hill.
On June 3, Questlove attended the Roots Picnic and recorded the once-in-a-lifetime reunion on camera.
Such A Night. The Fugees opened for us at #TheTrocodero in Philadelphia in 1993 at the request of the record label @ruffhouserecords, where he interned. This was one of their first shows after signing to a major label. “They came to support us as we celebrated signing with @geffenrecords. Early in 1993, they launched their #BluntedOnReality album. We signed our contract in December 1993, and dude.
“Look at us now, 30 years later,” he concluded. What an adventure. @MsLaurynHill did us a favor by allowing us to celebrate the iconic #MiseducationOfLaurynHill with her as well as by bringing her children @WyclefJean & @PrasMichel together in what might be one of the final occasions we will see this institution in this setting.
Word of a potential Fugees reunion tour had started to circulate back in September 2022, but the tour was finally cancelled when Pras was charged with federal money laundering.
The Grammy Award-winning MC’s legal issues prevented the tour from going on. Last year, the storied Hip Hop duo had just one performance in New York City before calling it quits.
Pras entered a not guilty plea to the accusations, but in April 2023, a jury found him guilty on eleven counts, including conspiracy to defraud the United States, tampering with witnesses, and operating as an unregistered agent of a foreign government. He might spend up to 20 years behind bars.
There is no defined time for sentence.
Wyclef Jean, meantime, is coping with his own health problems.
He spent a night in the hospital back in March 2022 and claimed that the problems started after he came back to Los Angeles from Miami.
When the right side of his face started to feel numb, Clef went to his family doctor for treatment. He was then promptly referred to the ER.
When the Haitian rapper arrived at the hospital, Dr. Waleed Lashin performed various tests and promptly asked for an overnight stay for him, explaining that the numbness in his face was caused by stress-related tiredness.
The news comes after Wyclef Jean said he wasn’t adequately caring for himself in a March 13 Instagram video in which he was seen being wheeled away in a wheelchair.
In the post, Wyclef stated, “Sometimes we forget that our body is our temple.” “Return soon.”
Because of all of these problems, some commentators have speculated that Lauryn Hill’s appearance with The Fugees would be her final ever performance. But whether this is the case will only become clear with time.
