Tyler, Fans of the Odd Future rapper The Creator will be excited to learn that he seems to be hinting at the long-awaited return of his annual Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival.
The message was delivered by the Grammy Award-winning artist during an animated cameo near the end of Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem’s new video “The Hillbillies.”
Around the 2:30 mark, Tyler stops by and is seen laughing with Kendrick and Keem while sitting on the front bumper of a classic automobile outside Dodger Stadium.
He then flashes a badge to the camera that says, “Camp Flog Gnaw 2023,” thus announcing the return of his L.A. festival after a four-year gap originally caused by COVID-19. He then flexes some of his custom jewelry.
The Grammy Award-winning artist Tyler, The Creator postponed Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival once more in October of last year, according to Tyler’s longtime manager Christian Clancy, who told Billboard that Tyler simply needed a break after juggling his Call Me If You Get Lost Tour and various creative endeavors.
Clancy remarked, “It’s actually not that deep. Tyler spent the entire year on the road and working on various projects. We decided it would be better to return the next year after reading the tea leaves and learning about the festivals that have emerged as a result of the pandemic.
As an extension of Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future’s creative vision, Camp Flog Gnaw was introduced in 2012 and features A-list performers, fairground activities, and food vendors.
In other Tyler, The Creator news, he recently disclosed that he has a provision in his will that forbids the release of any unheard songs after his passing.
The revelation was revealed by Tyler at his small performance of his most recent album, The Estate Sale, in April at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre.
Many remarkable events occurred during the show, such as a performance of the unreleased song “Penny,” which Tyler claimed was the first track he recorded for Call Me If You Get Lost and is a freestyle over Rich Boy’s “Throw Some D’s.”
Just before starting the song, Tyler addressed the crowd, “Some of these are so good I can’t just let ’em sit on my hard drive.” “Because I’ve stated in my will that if I pass away, no fucking posthumous record can be released. It’s disgusting that they would add some random feature to it, such as an n-gga that I didn’t fool with.
Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale had just recently released when Tyler gave his April performance. The eight-track release, which effectively acts as the deluxe edition of his 2021 album, includes guest vocals from Madlib and Kanye West as well as cameos from A$AP Rocky, YG, and the aforementioned Vince Staples.
