Snoop Dogg has hinted at a prospective NHL connection with Death Row Records and was seen sporting a pair of specially manufactured sweatpants with the Ottawa Senators logo sewn on them.
Since it was made public last month that the West Coast legend was engaged in a bidding war with multiple other potential owners, including actor Ryan Reynolds, he has been pressing for ownership of the NHL team.
According to The Athletic, Snoop wanted to buy the Senators in order to become the first Black owner in the NHL. The Weeknd would join the squad and there is reportedly a bid from Ryan Reynolds’ organization that is above $1 billion.
Snoop acknowledged the information and expressed his desire to develop hockey among Black people. “Amazing what @neko_sparks is trying to do in Ottawa & I’m looking forward to being apart of that ownership team,” he commented at the time on Instagram. I want to introduce hockey to our community.
The embroidered sweatpants Snoop posted to his Instagram on Tuesday (May 5) looked to indicate that he was winning the bidding war, so it appears that he may be on his way to realizing this dream.
The Los Angeles Kings have long had the support of Snoop Dogg. The 51-year-old has even joined the play-by-play broadcast for a Kings game in the past and read the starting lineup.
The Los Angeles Lakers in particular are a team that Tha Doggfather is a fervent supporter of in the NBA. Snoop named his favorite Laker players while arguing that LeBron James is not among the top five players to ever wear the purple and gold during a discussion on The PivotPodcast earlier this month.
Lou Alcindor was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar until Malcolm got a hold of them. ‘Earvin’ Magic Johnson is an East Lansing native. Are you following me? ‘Jellybean’ Kobe Bryant. It’s going to be difficult, my God. “Four of my favorite Lakers are Shaquille ‘The Real Deal’ O’Neal,” he stated. “None of those new guys are it. They haven’t done nearly enough.
In other news, Snoop Dogg recently disclosed that, prior to pursuing music, he nearly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
The West Coast rap legend paid thanks to all the troops on Instagram on May 29 in honor of Memorial Day. He also said that just after graduating from high school, he had intended to enlist in the military but changed his mind at the last minute.
