Tade Oyerinde, an African American entrepreneur, has raised over $100 million for Campus, an online community college launched in 2022. The platform was created to make accredited, affordable higher education available nationwide, particularly for students who want to avoid taking on student debt. Campus offers associate degrees in business administration and applied artificial intelligence to students across the United States. In California, the platform also provides programs such as paralegal studies and AWS cloud administration. High school students can enroll in free summer courses to earn college credit before graduation.
Oyerinde started Campus with the intention of increasing access to quality education regardless of background or financial status. In an interview with AfroTech, he explained the platform’s core idea: that every student in America should have the chance to learn from skilled professors, gain practical knowledge, and use that knowledge to improve their lives, without taking on large amounts of debt.
In 2023, Campus raised $29 million in Series A funding from a range of backers including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Discord Founder Jason Citron. By 2025, the company raised another $46 million through Series B, bringing the total funding to more than $100 million. These funds are being used to expand Campus’ reach, add new courses, improve the platform’s technology, and hire additional instructors.
General Catalyst Chairman Ken Chenault has joined the Campus board of directors. He expressed support for Campus’ approach, noting that traditional college degrees have become more expensive and less accessible for many. He believes Campus is helping to fill a gap by combining technology with quality instruction. Other recent investors include Founders Fund, 8VC, Bloomberg Beta, Rethink Education, Figma’s Dylan Field, Notion’s Akshay Kothari, and Max Altman.
Additional information about Campus, including enrollment details and course offerings, can be found on its website at Campus.edu. The platform is also active on Instagram for updates and student engagement.
