Sza's "SOS" Is On The Brink Of Breaking Usher's "Confessions" Record

SZA has remained at the top of the Billboard Hot 200 album list for six weeks running, closing up on Usher’s record that was set in 2004.

Her sophomore album SOS, which sold an extra 119,000 equivalent album units for the week of January 19, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart released on Monday (January 23). These numbers consist of roughly 160.1 million streams of the 23 songs on the album.

Since British Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle accomplished the same with her debut album between December 2009 and January 2010, SZA is the only woman (apart from Adele and Taylor Swift) to have spent six weeks at the top of the chart. The Hot 200 ranking, which this week also included the most recent works from Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, Drake, and 21 Savage, features SZA and Swift as the only two female artists in the Top 10.

SZA needs one more week to surpass a mark set by Janet Jackson in 1993. Furthermore, SOS is now the only R&B album by any artist to spend as many weeks at No. 1 in a row.

The following two goals for SZA would be to surpass the milestones set by Usher, whose Confessions was the last R&B album to reach No. 1 nine times, but not in a row, and Drake, whose 2016 album Views held the top spot on the Hot 200 for 13 weeks in a row.
