SZA announced updates for SOS Deluxe: Lana with three new tracks: “Take You Down,” “PSA,” and “Open Arms.” Ten days after the album’s release, she revealed plans to tweak mixes and add the new songs by January 6, with delays attributed to the label’s holiday schedule.
The deluxe version of SOS was released on December 20, expanding SZA’s hit 2022 album with additional content following a lengthy rollout that faced multiple delays. In a screenshot shared on X, she confirmed the new tracks and addressed her professional split with former manager Terrence “Punch” Henderson, explaining that their working relationship ended abruptly due to personal growth and changes.
On December 23, SZA gave fans an update, mentioning she was switching out some mixes after listening with a clear mind. However, the updated version of Lana did not arrive as planned on Christmas, leaving fans waiting until the new January 6 release date.
Despite the delays, Lana debuted strongly, topping the Billboard 200 with 178,000 equivalent album units sold in its first week. This achievement set a record, marking a 22-month gap between the original SOS release and its return to No. 1 on the chart. The original SOS also spent nine weeks at the top and earned SZA a 2024 Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Though she did not win—Taylor Swift’s Midnights took the honor—SZA did secure the award for Best Progressive R&B Album at the ceremony.
