A collaboration between The Weeknd and SZA was likely never going to be released, but now there is a chance thanks to SZA’s admission that she is willing to redo her verse.
Solana once made a remix of The Weeknd’s “Die For You” from Starboy, but the song was never released on any streaming sites. SZA earlier this week acknowledged the existence of the remix, but she would prefer to record her verse again before it is ever made public.
“Lmao, it’s super old, but it does exist. “I should re-record it,” she responded to a fan’s Instagram comment.
The Weeknd enthusiastically endorsed the notion after SZA’s remarks went viral and eventually caught his attention. He tweeted, “Yes, please.”
On the 18th edition of Abel’s Apple Music Beats 1 radio program Memento Mori, the SZA remix made its debut in October 2021. Starboy’s track “Die For You” gradually gained popularity and peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.
SZA, The Weekend, and Travis Scott previously collaborated on the song “Power Is Power” in 2019. The song was included on the “For the Throne” album, which took its cues from the popular HBO series Game of Thrones.
SZA is focused on releasing her eagerly anticipated sophomore album before she begins work on the “Die For You” remix. The Grammy-winning artist has stated that the S.O.S.-titled album will be released in December.
“I feel like music, in this capacity, I don’t see longevity,” she said. “I like to create, I like to write, I like to sing, and I like to share.” But I don’t know if chasing after superstardom or whatever I’m supposed to be doing right now is sustainable for me or for anybody. I’ma take a good swing at it, and I’ma give ’em my absolute best.
She later added: “I only do what I want to do, and this makes me feel free, safe, and unrestricted.”
