Suriel on Reviving the Mixtape Era, Upcoming EP, and Why Nas is the GOAT.

In Episode 112 of the ‘Guest Speaker Series’ on ‘Turntable Teacher’, Lynn, MA hip-hop artist Suriel makes his first in-person appearance on the podcast. Suriel recently dropped a mixtape called ‘The Turning Point’, available exclusively on his website, as a nod to the golden era of hip-hop mixtapes. He shares why he chose not to release it on streaming platforms and highlights how independent artists are finding new ways to connect with fans in an overcrowded music industry. Suriel also previews his upcoming EP, ‘The Shelter Tape’, a personal project that pays tribute to the struggles he faced while living in a shelter during his youth.

Suriel also reflects on two major recent performances: opening for The Lox’s 30th anniversary tour at Roadrunner in Boston and performing at Termanology’s 978 Show.

In addition, Mike and Suriel dive into various music-related topics, including their “Top 5 Rappers of All Time” list (with Nas at the top), their thoughts on Eminem’s new album, and why they consider the Marley family to be the greatest musical dynasty, among other discussions.
