Spotify has introduced a new feature that lets users remove individual songs from influencing their listening recommendations. The update expands on Spotify’s existing Taste Profile system, which tailors playlists like Discover Weekly, Blend, and your Home page based on your listening habits. Now, instead of only excluding entire playlists, users can prevent specific songs they dislike from appearing in future recommendations.
To use the feature, listeners can tap the three-dot menu beside any track and select “Exclude from your Taste Profile.” If they change their mind later, they can choose “Include in your Taste Profile” to add it back. The feature is especially helpful for those who share accounts or devices with others whose music choices might skew the algorithm.
Spotify’s move follows similar personalization tools on other platforms. Deezer and Tidal both allow users to block artists entirely, while YouTube Music offers the option to remove songs from history to limit their impact on recommendations. Apple Music’s Dislike feature can remove unwanted songs from suggestions, though its influence is less precise than the block systems offered by Deezer and Tidal.
With this update, Spotify aims to give users more control over how their listening data shapes future playlists, creating a more personalized experience for every listener.
