Spotify Introduces Direct Messaging Feature on Mobile.

Spotify is expanding its social features with a new direct messaging option called Messages. The feature allows users to send DMs to each other directly on the platform and is rolling out this week to Free and Premium users aged 16 and older in select markets on mobile devices.

How to Use Spotify Messages
Users can share songs, podcasts, or audiobooks with contacts they’ve previously interacted with, such as followers or collaborators on a playlist. In the Now Playing view, users tap the share icon, select a contact, add a message, and send. Once a message request is accepted, users can react with emojis, send text messages, and continue sharing Spotify content. Messages can also be accessed through a user’s profile photo in the top-left corner of the app.

Spotify notes that the Messages feature is designed to complement, not replace, sharing through platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, and TikTok.

Security and Controls
Users can accept or reject message requests, report inappropriate messages, and block other users. Messages are encrypted in transit and at rest, following industry-standard security practices.

Spotify provides additional information, including screenshots of the Messages feature, on its official post.
