Splice Launches Mobile Vocal Recording Feature, Splice Mic.

Music creation platform Splice has launched Splice Mic, a new feature in its mobile app that allows users to record vocals over instrumentals made within the app.

Announced on Wednesday (March 19), the update enables songwriters and producers to capture riffs, toplines, and lyrics directly from their phones over “Stacks” created using Splice Create. According to Splice’s SVP of Content Kenny Ochoa, over one million users have created more than 28 million Stacks so far.

“The phone is already a huge part of music making,” Ochoa said. “Now songwriters and producers can record vocal ideas over Stacks of samples. They can experiment with vocal, lyric, and genre and have even more control over their creative vision.”

The new feature uses Splice’s Create AI to analyze recordings and suggest sounds that match the vocal’s harmony. Users can also experiment with different genres within their Stacks.

Splice first introduced its AI-powered Create engine in June 2024. It allows users to upload original loops and blend them with Splice’s sample library.

To mark the launch, Splice partnered with songwriter and producer Leland and Laurelvale Studios in Los Angeles on a project called 60 Second Stack. The session brought together songwriters using Splice Mobile to build songs before studio time. “These creative tools are fun to use, and the results take songwriters deeper into the process,” Leland said.

Splice Mic is now available on the Splice Mobile app. The app supports sharing ideas with collaborators and transferring stems to digital audio workstations (DAWs). The feature follows Splice’s 2024 integration with PreSonus Audio Electronics.

Splice reached nearly 350 million downloads in 2024 and was valued at nearly $500 million in 2021 after raising $55 million in funding.
