Snoop Dogg has announced Altar Call, a gospel album set to be released on April 27 through Death Row Records. The project is described as a tribute to his late mother, Beverly Tate, who died in 2021. Snoop shared the news on Instagram and told Okayplayer that the album reflects his mother’s teachings and his desire to “spread love and heal the world.” The album cover prominently features Tate’s image.
The lead single from Altar Call will be released on April 18. The 21-track project blends gospel, Hip Hop, and R&B, with features from Jamie Foxx, Robert Glasper, Denaun Porter, Jazze Pha, and October London. Other contributors include Charlie Bereal, Mali Music, and the Death Row Mass Choir.
Altar Call follows Snoop’s earlier gospel effort Bible of Love (2018), which featured artists like Faith Evans and Charlie Wilson. In past interviews, Snoop has emphasized that his work in gospel music is not commercially driven, describing it as “spirit-driven” and rooted in his Christian faith.
This new release also comes as Snoop continues to guide the direction of Death Row Records, which he acquired in 2022. His moves have drawn criticism from former label co-founder Suge Knight, who recently questioned the nature of Snoop’s ownership and suggested that the label’s legacy is being mishandled.
