Snoop Dogg Introduces ‘Death Row Pro’ Production Music Division in Collaboration with Extreme Music, a Division of Sony Music Publishing
Snoop Dogg’s newly established film production unit, Death Row Pictures, is venturing into the music industry with the launch of Death Row Pro, a production music unit. In collaboration with Extreme Music, the production music arm of Sony Music Publishing, Death Row Pro will focus on licensing newly created music for various media, including TV, film, and advertisements.
This partnership aims to bring the iconic sound of Death Row Records to professional music users, offering a mix of previously unreleased tracks from the Death Row “vaults” and newly created West Coast-centric Hip-Hop inspired by the iconic Death Row DNA. Anticipated to debut in January 2024, the first releases from Death Row Pro are expected to make a significant impact.
Extreme Music, established in 1997 and headquartered in London, has a diverse roster that includes renowned names like Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Sir George Martin, Snoop Dogg, Two Steps from Hell, and Labrinth. Acquired by Sony Music Publishing in 2008, Extreme Music consolidated its two production music divisions, Extreme Music and EMI Production Music, into one global operation in 2020, with Russell Emanuel serving as President & CEO.
The announcement of Death Row Pro comes shortly after the appointment of Kat MacLean Daley, former UMG executive, as VP & Head of Publishing at Death Row Records. Reporting directly to Snoop Dogg, MacLean Daley oversees the day-to-day operations of the music business, with a particular focus on the newly established publishing venture.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Snoop Dogg commented on the honor of partnering with Extreme Music for the Death Row Pro series. Russell Emanuel, CEO of Extreme Music, highlighted the authenticity and sonic power of Death Row, expressing excitement about bringing it to music supervisors.
Death Row Records, founded in 1991, played a pivotal role in shaping the Hip-Hop genre and gaining global recognition for West Coast gangster rap. Hits like “Nuthin But A ‘G’ Thang” and “Let Me Ride,” as well as iconic albums like Dr. Dre’s “The Chronic” and Snoop Dogg’s “Doggystyle,” solidified its impact. Snoop Dogg acquired the Death Row brand last year, completed the purchase of the label’s recordings catalog, and recently collaborated with TikTok to bring the catalog to the app. The return to streaming services coincided with a partnership with gamma, a company backed by former Apple Music Global Creative Director Larry Jackson.
