At the conclusion of Smino’s fifth annual “Kribmas” performance in his native St. Louis, the rapper was given his own day.
A large crowd watched the holiday concert on Sunday, December 18. A member of Smino’s crew unexpectedly appeared on stage at the conclusion of the performance to present him with a video that showed St. Louis mayor Tishaura Jones breaking the news.
“I just want to congratulate Smino on the 5 year anniversary of Kribmas,” Mayor Jones said. “You’re always outreaching the community and being just a wonderfully talented artist. And it’s my pleasure as mayor of the city of St. Louis to declare today, December 18, as Smino Day.”
Smino had a busy 2022 after joining Motown Records late last year. He released his third album, Luv 4 Rent, and collaborated with Pharrell’s ICECREAM company on a Zero Fatigue capsule line.
In addition to J. Cole, Lil Uzi Vert, Doechii, Lucky Daye, Ravyn Lenae, Fatman Scoop, Reggie, and Phoelix, the 15-track Luv 4 Rent was released in October.
“This whole album, it’s about having fun and recognizing your inner love. Straight up self-love vibe,” he said of the LP in an interview. “I felt like I wasn’t personally doing that for myself, and I felt like I was just giving that out too much and not really taking it in.”
“So I was in that place, I was in the middle of that and I was like, ‘Damn, how I’ma get out of this?’ And the art imitates life, you feel me? And that’s my life. So, shit, that’s what I ended up making it about. Low key, this album probably just saved my life a little bit.”
In 2023, he will tour with co-headliner J.I.D as part of the Luv Is 4Ever Tour. Tickets for the 32-show tour are now available. The cost of general entry is approximately $65.
