Prior to the upcoming 65th Annual Grammy Awards, Slick Rick is one of the individuals that will be recognized with a 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Special Merit Awards honorees were announced by the Recording Academy on January 5; they will be honored on February 4 during a special Grammy Week ceremony.
The Special Merit Awards Ceremony will also present three Trustee Awards, two Technical Grammy Awards, and the Grammy for Best Song For Social Change in addition to the seven Lifetime Achievement Awards.
“The Academy is proud to celebrate this diverse slate of influential music people spanning numerous genres and crafts as our 2023 Special Merit Awards honorees,” said the Academy’s CEO Harvey Mason jr. in a statement.
“Each creator on this list has made an impact on our industry — from technical to creative achievements — representing the breadth of music’s diverse community,” he continued. “We’re excited to celebrate this group of legends next month that continues to inspire and shape the music world.”
Slick Rick “The Ruler” is being honored Along with Bobby McFerrin, Nirvana, Ma Rainey, Nile Rodgers, The Supremes, and Ann and Nancy Wilson of the group Heart.
