Shazam Highlights Growing Global Presence Of African Artists With Over 200 Chart Appearances.

Over 200 African artists appeared on Shazam’s Global Top 200 chart in the past year, according to new data from Apple Music. Twelve tracks reached the Shazam Global Top 10, with three hitting the No. 1 spot: “Shake It To The Max (FLY) [Remix]” by MOLIY, Silent Addy, Skillibeng & Shenseea; “My Darling” by Chella; and “Biri Marung” by Mr Pilato, Ego Slimflow & Tebogo G Mashego.

Other tracks in the Top 10 include “With You” by Davido featuring Omah Lay, “Venus” by Faceless & Serøtonin, “Show Me Love” by WizTheMc, “NINAO” by GIMS, “Ngishutheni” by Goon Flavour, Master KG & Eemoh, “Laho” by Shallipopi, “Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche” by Gentleman Mike Ejeagha & His Trio, “Joy Is Coming” by Fido, and “Funds” by Davido featuring ODUMODUBLVCK & Chike.

Apple Music’s Global Head of Music, Ole Obermann, noted that the growth reflects Africa’s rising influence in shaping today’s music. He credited Shazam for helping bring African songs to wider global listeners.

Nigerian singer Chella described Shazam as a key tool that helped international audiences discover his music. Ghanaian-American artist MOLIY shared that her song “Shake It To The Max” reached listeners across the Caribbean, Latin America, and Europe, thanks to the platform.

Shazam, which now reports over 300 million global monthly users, says Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Ghana led African chart appearances. The data follows the 2021 launch of Shazam’s national Top 200 charts in 17 countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.
