Samsung Introduces Eclipsa Audio 3D To Compete With Dolby Atmos.

At CES 2024, Samsung showcased its new 3D audio format, Eclipsa Audio, developed with Google, for its latest TVs and soundbars. Expected to rival Dolby Atmos, Eclipsa Audio promises immersive, dynamic sound experiences. “This innovation opens new possibilities for audio and reinforces our commitment to shaping the future of home entertainment,” said Taeyong Son, EVP at Samsung Electronics.

Eclipsa Audio enables creators to adjust sound location, intensity, and spatial reflections, enhancing audio immersion. Starting this year, YouTube will support Eclipsa Audio tracks, compatible with Samsung’s 2024 devices. To ensure quality, Samsung and Google are collaborating with the TTA on a certification program for Eclipsa-compatible devices.

Initially announced in 2023 as a Dolby alternative without licensing fees, Eclipsa Audio has yet to see widespread adoption beyond YouTube, though its potential to reshape audio experiences is promising.
