Boston artist Romeo Casanova has released his latest musical offering, District 7: Act 1. The nine-track project, which was announced by the artist on Instagram, is described as a blend of “gritty production and poetry-infused lyricism.”
In his announcement, Casanova revealed the project is a tribute to his home. “District 7 is a tribute to Roxbury — my home, my foundation, and the heart of Boston,” he wrote. He also shared insight into the album’s creation and timeline. “We started working on it back in February and wrapped it up in late May.”
The entire project was produced by GhillieGarc!a, who handled the sonic landscape for all nine tracks.
Casanova also explained a delay in the album’s release, which was originally slated for May. “With delays in getting vocals from one of the features and final mixes, it had to be pushed back,” he noted.
The delay, however, resulted in a new addition to the tracklist. “I ended up writing and recording a new song which ended up being, Free Mind 2, just to bring it across the finish line — and I’m glad I did,” Casanova shared. “That last-minute decision made the album even more complete.”
The artist emphasized the personal significance of the work. “This one means a lot to me. It’s gritty, it’s raw, it’s poetic, it’s different — and it’s out now.” He also included a specific listening instruction for new listeners, stressing the importance of the album’s opening. “Oh yea! please don’t skip the introduction if it’s your first time listening to District 7: Act 1, it’s very important that you do before going into this project.”
District 7: Act 1 is now available on streaming platforms.
