Rihanna Explains The "Weird" Direction Her New Music Could Go

Before performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, Rihanna acknowledged that the song she has been working on is different from what her fans are accustomed to.

The singer shared that her top priority right now is “to have fun” while speaking about her upcoming releases on Thursday (February 9) during an Apple Music press conference in advance of the Big Game on Sunday (February 12).

“Musically, I’m feeling open,” Rihanna said. “I’m feeling open to exploring, discovering, creating, things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird, might not ever make sense to my fans, you know, the people that know the music that I put out. I just want to play. I want to have fun. I want to have fun with music.”

The Super Bowl Halftime Show performance is scheduled to pay tribute to the songs that made her “the wealthiest female singer in the world” (per Forbes) in 2021, which may surprise some.

In a press conference, Rihanna stated that the 13-minute performance, which will be broadcast by Fox during the NFL championship game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, will be “a celebration of my collection in the best manner we could have put it together.”
