For over 20 years, KEM has been a mainstay in modern R&B, blending soul, jazz, and mature romance into a catalog that has grown with his audience. Born Kim Lamont Owens in Nashville, he rose through Detroit’s music scene, financing his debut album Kemistry independently before signing with Motown, leading to platinum success. Hits like “Love Calls,” “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” and “Nobody” solidified his place as a distinctive voice in the genre.
KEM’s legacy now expands beyond music. The Love Always Wins singer and his wife, Erica Owens, are expecting their eighth child, which will be their fifth together. Both KEM and Erica also have children from previous relationships.
Married since 2019, KEM told People that fatherhood is central to his life. “Being a husband and a father continues to be the greatest blessing of my life,” he said. Erica Owens shared her perspective on motherhood, calling it a “meaningful journey” that has been deeply grounding.
The couple approaches this next phase with gratitude and excitement. “Erica and I are looking forward to welcoming another little miracle into our growing family,” KEM said. Owens added, “My husband and I are excited for this next chapter. Our family is already full of love for this little blessing.”
Themes of love, commitment, and emotional accountability that KEM has long explored in his music clearly extend into his personal life, reinforcing the centrality of family in his journey.
