Questlove To Co-Curate Special Hip Hop 50 Segment During  Grammys This Year

Questlove has revealed that he will co-curate a special tribute performance at the February Grammys as part of this year’s Hip Hop 50 celebrations.

Six-time Grammy winner Quest said in a video that he will collaborate with Nas’ Mass Appeal for a unique concert with “some of the biggest personalities from the genre coming together to commemorate Hip Hop history.”

“Hip Hop has been a driving force in the music and the culture,” Questlove said in part. “It’s had an immeasurable impact on our culture and our world and I’ve had the great privilege of co-curating this thing with the Roots and many others that are gonna join us that night.”

Rap hasn’t really been a Grammys staple for that long. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (real names Jeff Townes and Will Smith) won the inaugural Best Rap Performance Hip Hop award given out by the Recording Academy in 1989 for their song “Parents Just Don’t Understand.”
