Providence or Prov, Never ‘Provi’: SauceMaane Sparks a Nickname Debate Online.

Content creator SauceMaane has sparked laughs, and a little debate, after posting a playful PSA aimed at his neighbors across Massachusetts.

In a clip that quickly drew the attention of many, the content creator called out locals from Boston, Dorchester, Lawrence, Randolph, and Brockton for what he says is a growing linguistic crime: calling Providence “Provi.”

“What the hell is a Provi?!” he asked in disbelief, noting that he has no idea who started the trend but insists it needs to end. He even likened it to the idea of people in Rhode Island calling Boston “Bosto,” stressing how odd the nickname sounds to him.

According to him, the proper shorthand is simple, stick with Providence or Prov. Anything else? “So cringe,” he joked, adding that it feels strange every time he hears it.

The post roused varying responses from his audience. Some jumped on board with his argument, even humorously endorsing “Bosto” as Boston’s new cute nickname. Others maintained that “Provi” has always been the way locals referred to Providence, while some admitted they weren’t even aware of the nickname debate until now.

Still, SauceMaane made it clear where he stands: “Providence or Prov, I beg. 😂”
