Playboi Carti’s latest album, Music, has been certified gold just two weeks after its release, surpassing 500,000 sales. Celebrating the milestone, Carti shared a screenshot of a text delivering the news, captioning it, “FEELING LIKE WEEZY WE ALREADY PLATINUM N DA STREETS.” The comment references Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, which sold one million copies in its first week in 2008.
The certification coincided with the anniversary of Carti’s breakout single “Broke Boi,” marking a full-circle moment. Last week, he also paid tribute to Wayne by releasing the deluxe edition of Music titled Sorry 4 Da Wait, referencing Wayne’s 2011 mixtape. The expanded version includes bonus tracks such as “Different Day,” “2024,” “Backr00ms,” and “FOMDJ,” all of which had surfaced in some form before the album’s release.
Music opened with 283,000 units in its first week, making it the biggest rap debut of 2025 and second overall behind The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, which sold 490,000 copies. The album also recorded the highest streaming numbers for any release since Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department in May 2024.
Despite its strong performance, Carti disputed the reported first-week total. After Akademiks posted that the album moved 298,000 units, Carti responded on X with “320,” implying he believed the numbers should be higher. He had also expressed frustration over physical copies not being counted in early projections. Billboard later clarified that the album was initially available only as a digital download, with CD versions set to be released in the coming weeks.
