PayPal has launched a new feature called Pay With Crypto, allowing users to make purchases using bitcoin, ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies. The feature automatically converts crypto into local currency at checkout, meaning merchants receive standard payments and don’t have to handle digital assets directly. PayPal says this approach reduces transaction fees, especially for international sales, and simplifies the global payment process.
CEO Alex Chriss stated that the move aims to eliminate obstacles for businesses expanding internationally by lowering costs and simplifying integration. Pay With Crypto integrates into PayPal’s existing checkout system, presenting crypto as a payment option alongside traditional methods.
This rollout is part of PayPal’s broader strategy to make cryptocurrency usable in everyday transactions, rather than just for investment. It follows previous crypto efforts like partnering with Coinbase and offering rewards tied to its stablecoin PYUSD. The feature currently supports 100 cryptocurrencies and will launch first in the US, with expansion planned.
