OpenAI Plans to Integrate Sora With ChatGPT and Develop Mobile App.

OpenAI is planning to integrate its AI-video generator, Sora, into ChatGPT while also considering a standalone mobile app, according to TechCrunch. Currently, Sora is only accessible through a web portal.

Sora, which launched in December 2024, allows users to create 20-second videos from text prompts for a $20 monthly fee. Its release sparked debates on copyright and fair use within the creative industry. OpenAI product lead Rohan Sahai discussed future plans in a Discord session but did not provide a timeline for the ChatGPT integration.

The ChatGPT version may have limited functionality compared to the standalone Sora tool, which currently allows users to splice and edit footage. Sahai also confirmed OpenAI is hiring mobile engineers in preparation for a future mobile app.

OpenAI is working on upgrades to Sora, including improvements to its underlying model, Sora Turbo. The tool recently expanded to users in the UK and EU. Meanwhile, OpenAI has also introduced GPT-4.5, available as a research preview for Pro users, with wider availability expected soon.
