Natasha Davis is creating opportunities for Black women to build wealth through real estate. She is the founder of The BLOC, a 100% female-owned real estate development and investment firm, as well as The BLOC Foundation, a nonprofit focused on training and mentorship. Together, they function as a construction company, investment firm, and educational institute.
Davis began her career as a nurse but always had her sights set on real estate. “Initially, I got my license as a realtor, thinking that was the way in,” she told Black Enterprise. “I learned early on that was not the case.” Facing early setbacks with unreliable contractors, Davis used her skills in project management to take control of her real estate projects. She later enrolled in carpentry classes and began sharing her completed work online.
Her social media posts gained traction, and the responses revealed a demand for her knowledge and services. Encouraged by the interest, Davis launched her own construction company. She had already created a nonprofit for mentoring girls in 2012, but soon recognized that women also needed mentorship in navigating the real estate world.
The BLOC was developed to address this gap, especially in light of data showing persistent disparities. A 2022 Zillow study found that women have access to 18% less of the real estate market than men, with the gap even wider for Black women. Davis and her co-founders, all successful in real estate, designed a curriculum to give women the practical tools and knowledge they need to thrive in both real estate and construction.
“I heard so many horror stories about women being part of expensive programs that didn’t help them succeed,” Davis said. “I did not want that narrative associated with who I was and what I did.”
The BLOC’s model is producing results. The program has helped 80 women become real estate investors. Through The BLOC Foundation, which focuses on workforce development, Davis and her team have supported approximately 120 women. Their work equips participants to make tangible progress in building financial independence.
Based in New Jersey, The BLOC team is working to expand nationally. They plan to bring programming and workshops to other cities. On June 22, they will host ElevateHER, a leadership and wealth-building event featuring panel discussions, breakout sessions, and more.
By blending education, mentorship, and direct investment training, Davis is helping women become active participants in the real estate market—not just as homeowners, but as builders, investors, and leaders.
