Tobe Nwigwe and Jacob Banks have added some extra intensity to Nas’ brand-new song, “On My Soul.”
“On My Soul” was released on Thursday (May 18) via Mass Appeal Records, which Nas co-founded in 2014. Tobe Nwigwe starts out the soulful track with his trademark fast-paced delivery full of bars that you have to replay and analyze.
“Guard your grill, guard your grill/Ain’t nobody out here hard to kill/The gat I pack go “pap” and peel your cap from front to back/Have you stiff or hard as steel/Ah, tuna fish my hardest meal/Stay trill when they switch to a harder skill/I’m in the field like a Buffalo Bill with a bubble-coat filled/With a couple little posts, chill,” the Houston rapper spits.
The King’s Disease rapper continues to follow the script by delivering us lines that will make anyone scowl in astonishment after Jacob Banks delivers the chorus in an electrifying manner.
“Don’t slander all the banter/Just one answer, I’m an animal/I’m just one man, outstandin’ though/Part wolf, part king, part Hannibal/Example, proof, I’m built like I’m mechanical/On the mic, I’m a cannibal,” Nas raps.
The song “On My Soul” appears on the soundtrack for the June 9, 2023, release of the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts motion picture.
In related Nas news, N.O.R.E. recently disclosed that the Drink Champs episode in which he was allowed to interview the renowned Queens rapper was his most bizarre.
Speaking to HipHopDX backstage at the Lovers & Friends event in Las Vegas last week, the Drink Champs co-host said it was an incredible experience to interview Nas and that his goal was to humanize the Hip Hop idols who appear on his show.
“That’s my brother, and even though I never wanted to interview him since he’s my brother, the fact that he did sit down is quite strange because you shouldn’t ask people questions you don’t want to ask them. I’m not the police, and they are aware of this, but at the end of the day, I just want to have fun and confuse them, he declared.
At the end of the day, all Hip Hop stars are superheroes, but the thing is, I don’t create ’em superheroes; I make ’em Clark Kents, and that’s what makes Drink Champs Drink Champs.
2019 saw the release of The Lost Tapes 2, and soon after, Nas got down to talk with Drink Champs. N.O.R.E. paused the lengthy discussion to acknowledge the enormous accomplishment of having the Illmatic MC on the program.
“I came here with my people, and I never dreamed of doing business with Steve Jobs, Warren Buffett, or anyone else like that. I had the mindset that I wanted to conduct business with Puff Daddy, Nas, and Hov. Because that’s who I admire and who I envision myself being,” N.O.R.E remarked to thunderous applause.
