After sharing a mysterious teaser on Instagram, Nas’ supporters are now equally excited and perplexed.
On Wednesday, July 12, the late Queensbridge rap legend secretly deleted all of the posts from his Instagram account before posting a brief, enigmatic video of a storm without a message.
Little more than rain and thunder can be heard in the 10-second clip, as a flash of lightning briefly lights the foggy sky to show an image of Nas’ large “N” emblem.
Fans were left to make assumptions about what the message might indicate as there was no explanation provided, and many seem to believe a new Nas album is imminent.
“Please let me know when another album is coming!” “Escobar Season begins,” one fan commented in the comments area with excitement.
With the comment “dark mode” and the addition of three fire emojis, Hit-Boy, the Grammy-winning producer of Nas’ last four albums, appeared to imply that he might be involved in whatever is forthcoming.
Because a fourth edition of Nas’ critically acclaimed King’s Disease series is reportedly in the works, fans have strong reason to think a new Nas album could be on the way soon.
In an interview with Billboard in February, 50 Cent let the cat out of the bag when he talked about his upcoming musical comeback, his rapidly growing multimedia empire, and the 20th anniversary of his smash first album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, among other things.
The magazine reported that the G-Unit boss would make a rare appearance on Nas’ upcoming King’s Disease 4 LP in addition to working on a new solo album with Eminem and Dr. Dre.
If so, it would be the first time in more than 20 years that the two Queens, New York natives have worked together since “Too Hot” and “Who U Rep With” from 50’s 2002 mixtape Guess Who’s Back?
Last month, Nas fueled the fire by announcing that he’s back in the studio and going through a “creative growth spurt.”
According to him, “I’m in one of these creative growth spurts,” he told Vanity Fair. “I’m really excited about it, and it surprises me, but I’m not too, too surprised because I was waiting for the day that I felt like this again, and I knew it would come,” the speaker said.
In response to a question on whether he intended to add to his King’s Disease series with Hit-Boy, he said that he genuinely loves the “constant flow” of music and doesn’t “wanna stop it once it’s flowing the way it’s flowing.”
He said, “I just wanna see what happens as I stick to it. It feels very free.” And I’ve been following through with it my entire life. For example, I truly don’t do anything else when I’m recording. For me, it hasn’t been this way in maybe twenty years.
“I think that’s what I think today, maybe tomorrow I think about, well, actually accurately, seven years, or since I’ve really been in the studio, but when it comes to my head now, it’s been that long — 20 years.”
Nas recently made two huge cameos on Metro Boomin’s “Nas Morales” from Across the Spider-Verse and his “On My Soul” collaboration with Tobe Nwigwe and Jacob Banks from the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts soundtrack. That momentum has definitely been present since the release of King’s Disease III last November.
