Mr. Vegas Talks Retirement, Dancehall’s Future & Staying True to His Voice on Hot 93.7.

Mr. Vegas isn’t slowing down. The Jamaican dancehall veteran sat down with Buck and Regg on Hot 93.7 to reflect on his decades-long career, his brief retirement, and why he’s more committed than ever to making music that moves the culture forward.

Retirement & Comeback
At one point, Mr. Vegas stepped away from music, but he couldn’t stay gone for long. “I love music too much,” he admitted. Comparing his passion to LeBron James’ drive for the game, he made it clear that as long as he can deliver, he’s not stopping.

Dancehall’s State & Preserving Caribbean Culture
Vegas remains vocal about the evolution of dancehall, using his platform to advocate for the genre’s authenticity. “I feel like I’ve earned the right to speak on it,” he said, noting his contributions to the movement. His commitment to Caribbean culture shines through in his performances, where he aims to represent the entire region on global stages.

Health Scare & Lifestyle Changes
The hitmaker also opened up about a past health scare when he experienced severe chest pains and was misdiagnosed with heart issues. After taking multiple medications, he later learned acid reflux was the culprit, triggered by poor eating habits. Making necessary lifestyle changes, he’s now feeling better than ever.

New Music & What’s Next
With a fresh outlook and an unstoppable work ethic, Mr. Vegas is gearing up for 2025 with his latest track, Alive. He continues to bring high-energy performances, including his upcoming appearance on the Jamrock Cruise, proving he’s still a force in dancehall.

As for social media? He stands firm on his beliefs, regardless of backlash. “You have to stand for something,” he said. “And I’m always going to stand for the music.”
