On what would have been the late singer’s 44th birthday, Missy Elliott remembered Aaliyah with a social media post.
Missy Elliott paid tribute to the artist who died in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001 on Monday (January 16) on Twitter. The “Gossip Folks” rapper planned to post her tweet on Aaliyah’s actual birthday, which is the day she would have turned 44.
Missy referred to her buddy in her tweet as a pioneer for being innovative with her music and style, as well as a natural when it comes to acting and fashion.
“You will forever be the blueprint of what it means to STEP OUTSIDE the box MUSICALLY & creating NEW style in FASHION & a NATURAL at acting & being GREAT at them all The World will always feel your IMPACT & LOVE you shared 4ever,” Missy tweeted.
As she did throughout the Christmas season, the 51-year-old has always made it a point to pay tribute to Aaliyah. The native of Virginia used albums by Aaliyah, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., and other artists to decorate her tree with vinyl records and CDs.
