Microsoft is phasing out support for its Windows 11 Mail, Calendar, and People apps. Starting December 31, users will be redirected to the free version of Microsoft Outlook, which integrates similar features in a streamlined interface. Users will still be able to export their emails, contacts, and events after the transition.
Some may already see the shift, as clicking Mail now opens the Outlook app for some users, accompanied by a notice that Mail is being retired. Announced on October 31, this change is part of Microsoft’s move toward its AI-enhanced Outlook, which includes new themes, customizable notifications, and an updated menu ribbon displaying frequently used apps.
For those who prefer the older Outlook layout, a toggle in the top right allows switching between versions. If you use non-Microsoft email services, they remain supported; add accounts through Settings > Accounts > Email accounts.
