While working on his sixth studio album, Michael, Killer Mike discovered that he needed to spend a ton of cash and ran up a $500,000 bill in the process.

In a recent interview with Spin, Mike discussed the record, his early life, politics, race, and other topics.

The Run The Jewels rapper acknowledged that it took some time (and a significant amount of money) for his upcoming record to come to fruition.

He claims that the record was originally a collaborative effort between him and an earlier partner, the Arkansas-born rapper Cuz Lightyear. But once Lightyear assumed the position of record executive at Mass Appeal Records, the plans were altered. According to Mike, his friend advised him to create a solo project instead and promised to help him as much as possible.

“All well, then, Cuz Double Round and I will just record a mixtape. We’ll distribute it via Mass Appeal so that it can assist in getting you there. Cuz exclaimed, “Man, we are making some serious deadly records,” as soon as we got to work. I’ll tell you what we’re going to do: make a solo album. I am about to put my career on hold. Additionally, we’ll put your solo album together.

Michael was born at this very moment. “It was a Christlike thing to do,” Mike remarked.

The rapper was on his way with a reworked vision and the addition of prolific producer No ID as executive producer. Cuz Lightyear would eventually take over as A&R on the project, but it came at a steep cost that the rapper had to cover out of pocket.

Mike estimated that at least $50,000 was wasted. However, he was able to recoup his investment in the album through the advance from a distribution contract with Loma Vista Records, which couldn’t have arrived soon enough as Mike’s wife, Shay Render, started to worry.

Shay asked Mike, “What the fuck are we doing buddy?” as the Michael tab climbed even higher. Mike chuckles heartily. “She says, “Well n-gga, I’m glad you being repaid because I had some issues that you wasting half-a-million fucking money on a fantasy project.”

On June 16, André 3000, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, El-P, Dave Chappelle, and others will all appear on the album Michael.

Speaking of the Three Stacks appearance, the legendary OutKast member reportedly sought to have the guest verse removed off the album until he heard the finished product and was floored by Eryn Allen Kane, a singer from Detroit who delivers the song’s hook.

In a video clip from his most recent listening session, Mike stated, “André 3000, he’s in Japan right now as we speak, playing the flute. ‘Kill, I don’t know about the song, guy,’ he said when he called me. Man, we just received a dope rap record.

“And then Cuz [Lightyear] was asking, ‘You sent him the final record?'” I said, “Nah.” I sent it over along with Eryn’s hook and other things. “Yeah, yeah, you got the record,” he retaliated. : “Who is that?

“So thank you, Eryn, I really appreciate that,” he continued.
