Method Man Discusses The Key Difference Between Hip Hop Today And The Wu-Tang Clan Era

Method Man has expressed his opinions on the status of hip-hop, noting how things have changed since the peak of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The “Bring The Pain” rapper discussed how much has changed in the past three decades in an interview with The Breakfast Club that aired on Monday (May 12).

“Let’s say Hip Hop was in its early 20s,” he said. You get what I’m saying? “Still young, yet still wants to fuck a lot. There is much more authenticity now that I am learning more about what these streets are like. You can tell that a record is from the West Coast when you hear it. We can tell that was in the south when you heard UGK.

I’m not taking anything away from the music of today, he continued. Because it works, whatever works. And I approve of some of the work being done these days. But we had identities back then. Everyone was vying for their own identity at the time. Currently, it appears that everyone is vying for the same identity.

Mef was quick to counter that he still has faith for the future of hip hop despite the monotony of the current sound. “I don’t mind because, you know, that’s going to ignite the thought that transforms everything,”

To be fair to the “Protect Your Neck” rapper, he clearly isn’t scared to acknowledge contemporary musicians, as he demonstrated in February by giving GloRilla a shoutout.

While he was on the red carpet at the 2023 Grammy Awards, HipHopDX had the opportunity to speak with Wu-Tang MC. Mef was soon questioned about the new artist he was enjoying at the moment.

Method GloRilla, who has become “big” in his household as a result of her popular song “F.N.F,” was mentioned by the man. He admitted, “I don’t really listen to much [of] today’s music.” But who is important in my household right now? Who is playing music in my home? Glo.”

He continued by claiming that he had in fact met GlorRilla and that at the time, she had no idea who the famed rapper was. Meth yet stated she was really considerate. That says a lot about her character. “I love her,” Meth continued.

GloRilla responded to Meth’s love on Instagram Stories by claiming to be a “big fan” of the New York rapper and that she “definitely” knew who he was. Glo posted on Instagram, “@methodmanofficial I most definitely know who you were lol big fan.”
